The world’s best marathon skaters will compete in Paraguay on October 18, in a race that combines the World Championship with an official World Cup stage of the World Skate Marathon Tour. The World Skate Marathon Tour is preparing for one of the biggest events of its 2026 season. On October 18, the world’s top marathon skaters will meet in Asunción, Paraguay, for a unique race that will award the Marathon World Championship titles and, at the same time, count as an official World Cup stage of the World Skate Marathon Tour.

The event will take place on the final day of the World Skate Games ASU26, bringing more than two weeks of international competition to an exciting conclusion on the streets of the Paraguayan capital.

The 2026 season opened in Shanghai on March 29, where more than 1,200 Pro, Amateur and young skaters took over the city streets. Bart Swings triumphed in the Pro Men’s race, while Lianne van Loon won a thrilling final sprint in the Pro Women’s competition. After the Challenger stage in Pamplona, where Bart Swings and María José Quiroz claimed victory, the attention now turns to Paraguay and one of the most important marathon races of the year.

THE WORLD SKATE GAMES ASU26

The Asunción marathon will be held as part of the World Skate Games ASU26, the biggest global celebration of sports on skating wheels. The Speed Skating World Championships will take place from October 10 to 18.

The track competitions will be held at the Comité Olímpico Paraguayo, while the road races, 100-meter sprint and marathon will take place in Asunción’s Downtown District.

The program will include sprint, points, elimination and relay races for Junior and Senior athletes, before the marathon brings the Speed Skating World Championships and the entire World Skate Games to a spectacular conclusion.

A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AND A WORLD CUP STAGE IN ONE RACE

The marathon scheduled for Sunday, October 18, will have a unique dual significance.

Athletes and teams will compete for WSMT ranking points, prize money and the Tour leader jerseys, bringing together the prestige of a World Championship and the international competition of the Marathon Tour in one race.

The event will welcome national teams, registered World Skate Marathon Tour teams and individual athletes. Masters and Amateur skaters will also have the opportunity to participate, keeping the inclusive spirit of the Tour at the heart of the event.

For Junior and Senior athletes, there will be one Women’s and one Men’s marathon category. The Masters competition will include age groups from Master 30 to Master 75+.

Taking place in Asunción’s Downtown District, the race will bring the speed, energy and excitement of inline marathon skating directly into the heart of the city.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Official registrations through the World Skate Infinity platform will be open from July 1 at 00:00 CET until September 10, 2026, at 23:59 CET.

Athletes representing their National Federation must be registered directly by their federation and should not complete a second registration for the WSMT Asunción stage.
WSMT Team Athletes representing their NFs must also be registered to the Stage by their Team manager.

Athletes who are not representing a National Federation, including Masters, will be able to participate through the individual registration process for the dedicated WSMT Asunción event on the Infinity platform.

Amateur registrations will be managed separately by the Local Organizing Committee. More information will be provided in the next official bulletin.
